Dresses, dresses, and more dresses!

I am now fnally able to update due to the fact that I actually have pictures! Since there is so much, I shall start from the very beginning. I first attended The Bonnie Blue Ball which was a civil war theme. My dress was lovely and borrowed from a dear friend.

After that, I attended the Harvest Dance in November. It was lovely and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. My dress I made myself and finished as we were walking out the door for the ball. lol. Slightly stressful ;) but im so glad I finished it!
Brooke and I:
Emily and I (both in stripes! her dress inspired me to make mine):
Collin and I:

So there you have it. Now for the ball to be! I teach swing dancing (which i enjoy greatly) and I am right now in the middle of planning a ball of my very own. It will be called "Swingin' In The Rain". Here is the dress pattern I will be making:
It Vogue's pattern (V2902)
This is a color very similar to what I am going to use. Although the fabric I am actually looking at has more gray in it.
I will also be adding a large sash for around my waist and it will tie into a big wonderful bow in the back! I havent decided if I want this bow to be the same color as the dress or black. Black is what I will be using for the hem and the straps.
So hopefully pictures will be up soon of the finished product! I am going to make a mock-up this weekend to see what changes and alterations need to be made. I might upload some pics of that.

Until another day.....

Swing Dancing and dresses

So as some of you know, I teach Swing Dancing! I'm in the process of planning a ball for sometime in March and some of my friends and I are wanting to go in 1950's style costumes. The other young ladies who attend will be in formals, and the gentlemen in tux's or nice suits. I have been searching for some dress ideas, and here are some that I came up with ^.^:

I love how fun this one is!:

But I must say, this one is my all-time favorite. I would love to find a pattern similar to it:

For the ball, I need some decoration ideas. I would like it to be a retro/1950's-ish style. Any of your ideas for the decorating and/or dress patterns are very welcome!

Until next time....

back to the land of the living

Hello dear friends, I am back! I'm hoping that I will be much more successful at keeping this blog updated :).

Right now I'm working on a colonial dress for the Harvest Dance (English Country Dancing) I'll be attending. So far, I have the dress almost completely finished, and my stays are almost done as well. So all that will soon be left is the petticoat and the chemise....which is good considering I only have about 3 weeks left ;). I'll post pictures as soon as I can!

??

Im not quite sure whether I'm going to continue with this blog or not, it's more like a test I guess...lol. Let me know what you think. I was thinking about having it as a sewing discussion blog where you can express patterns/thoughts/whatever sewing related :)! Im just beginning to sew and I love to hear what others are working on and the such! Also, if you have any ideas as to what this blog could be for i'm quite open for ideas :)
